New York Stock Exchange

A Front-Row Seat to Wall Street for Over 30 Years

1997-2025: Markets Correspondent/Senior Markets Correspondent, CNBC.

Bob Pisani live broadcast on a television in a living room.

For 28 years, I reported live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange as CNBC’s Market Correspondent, and then Senior Markets Correspondent. Surrounded by traders on the floor, I covered the movement of major indices, corporate earnings, IPOs, the SEC, market structure, the impact of global economic and political developments on investor behavior, the growth of indexing/passive investing and the remarkable rise of ETFs.

I’ve watched, and tried to explain, the remarkable transition from traders shouting on the floor of the NYSE to nearly all-electronic trading.

When I started in this role, it was still possible to talk about the U.S. stock market in isolation. Not anymore. I have worked to explain how interconnected the world had become, from China to Europe to emerging markets, and how financial data and political change influence market performance.

Major Events covered:

  • The Thai baht crisis (1997)

  • The dot-com bubble and collapse (1999–2000)

  • 9/11 (2001)

  • The Great Financial Crisis (2007–2009)

  • The rise of index investing and ETFs (2010-2025)

  • The COVID-19 pandemic and NYSE floor closure (2020)

2018-2025:  Producer and Anchor, ETF Edge, CNBC

Produced a podcast, newsletter, and weekly show that was both live-streamed and on-air on CNBC that covered developments in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). Interviewed and covered the leading ETF providers and their leadership, including Blackrock, Vanguard, State Street, Invesco, Schwab, Dimensional, and others.

2020-2025, Market Matters with Bob Pisani

Biweekly show distributed on CNBC YouTube channel and livestreamed on platforms like LinkedIn and X (formerly Twitter), where I answered viewer questions on investing and market trends.

2007-2025: Creator and author, Trader Talk blog

Created, wrote and edited the Trader Talk blog, one of the first blogs on CNBC. Covered markets, investing, IPOs, ETFs, and occasional travel pieces.

1990-1996:  CNBC Real Estate Correspondent

Covered the real estate market during a turbulent period marked by the Savings & Loan crisis (1989-1993). I also reported on mortgages, home prices, REITs, insurance, and home-building stocks, as well as broader real estate investment trends in the U.S. and internationally.

I also explored how real estate intersected with culture and history, reporting on anniversaries of iconic New York properties such as the Empire State Building, the Waldorf-Astoria, the Russian Tea Room and the World Trade Center. Coverage ranged from the impact of hurricanes on housing markets to the rise of vacation clubs and new models of international investing.

1987-1992:  Lecturer/Adjunct, The Wharton School

Co-taught a yearly course on real estate development with my father, Ralph Pisani, a long-time real estate executive and educator, which focused on the fundamentals of land acquisition, planning, financing, construction and marketing.  Drew on real-world examples and personal experience to help students understand the complexity and risk of real estate deals, and what it takes to bring a project from concept to completion.

This work later formed the foundation for our co-authored book, “Investing in Land: How to Be a Successful Developer” (John Wiley, 1989).
